Catgut Mary

Australian Kingswood Factory

Muscle Mary

Free gigs don't get much sweeter than this doozy of a line-up at The Brunswick Hotel on Saturday 26th July.

Kicking off at 9pm with the sleazy crutch thrusting rock of mighty locals Muscle Mary you don't wanna be late to this party. Then it is time for those swinging, winning purveyors of raw greasy rock The Jacks.

Next up is rockabilly rebels and local favouritesAustralian Kingswood Factory. The boys have a reputation for blowing the roof off and tonight will be no different. In fine form from a recent East Coast and supporting US punks Evil Beaver you don't wanna miss them.

Speaking off don't miss... Holy shit... Catgut Mary! This band mix jigs & jive with riot & knives to create something truly dynamic and always entertaining. Wish Kat on violin a happy birthday and charge your drinking glasses for what will be a smashing set of swashbuckling folk punk to close the night in ripping style.

Did we mention this is all for free? Hell YES!!! See you in the pit :-)

Great John Himself

with guests

Bec Goring and the Elwood Winters
Soul Mate

It’s the 31st of July. It is cold, raining, your brain hurts from almost completing your first week back at university and you haven’t had a drink in at least six days. Whilst you sit at home occupying your time reluctantly watching the Footy Show, you vaguely remember reading an annoying Facebook invitation you received from someone you've only seen a few times since high school. It’s an event page to a show his band is playing. You reflect for a moment on the mess that your life has become and that maybe it’d be nice to integrate yourself back into society. ‘I do have that lecture at 10am tomorrow morning’, you say to yourself, not at all fooled by your efforts to believe that you actually care.

You take to the computer and search the event page. You can’t recall the name of the band but remember it not only being completely irrelevant, but slightly pretentious. After searching the word ‘Great’, an event page appears by the name ‘Great John Himself @ The Brunswick Hotel w/ Bec Goring and the Elwood Winters, Soul Mate & Damon Perillo’. Once again you observe the pretentious nature of the band, but choose to ignore it and decide it could be a bit of fun. ‘A girl like me should be able to let my hair down every once in a while’ you say to yourself.

On arrival it is clear to you that this was the best decision you have ever made and you get way too drunk and have a wonderful time.

Set Times
Damon Perillo: 8:00-8:40
Soulmate: 9:00-9:40
Bec Goring and the Elwood Winters: 10:00-10:40
Great John Himself: 11:00 - 12:00

Free entry, $3 Schooners of James Boags and some sort of cider, $5 basic spirits. Big Ol’ Party.

The Larsen Effect. Heard of it? It's a special kind of positive feedback that happens when a sound loop exists between an audio input (for example a guitar pick up) and an audio output (for example a Fender or Marshall amp).

There’ll be plenty of positive feedback on Saturday 9 August at the Brunny. Get along as Great John Himself belt out their own brand of rock, ska and roots; BUG step off on wave of overdriven noise and garage; Iowa max out the pedals with their brutal and melodious three pronged fuzz attack and Mustard push the amps harder as they ply their heavy handed punk and garage.
The Brunny Saturday 9 August. Bands kick off 9pm.
